The Typing Test

Test 5

Game Instructions

This game is very much like the first one: all you need to do is type the target sentence exactly as it appears. However, in this game, you may not correct mistakes. In fact, the game is over the moment you press an incorrect key. One mistake and you are done.

To score well, make it to the end of the sentence without erring. The faster you can do this, the better you will score.

Test 4

Game Instructions

In this typing game you need to try to type each key before it counts down to 0.

When keys become active, they begin counting down from 10. At this point their label is yellow. As these numbers count down, they change colors to warn you of their urgecy; when a key turns orange you should address it shortly, while a red key needs to be addressed immediately lest you register a costly key loss.

Some keys countdown faster than others. In general, you probably want to go for the faster-counting keys to capture them while they still have value and before you lose them.

The faster you strike the keys as they become active, the more points you get. As soon as you hit a key, you will stop its countdown and earn a score based on the value of the key when you hit it. More specifically, you score (piece value) squared, so you can earn up to 100 points for each key.

You might be tempted just to type as fast as possible, hitting keys frantically, but this strategy will hurt your score as you are penalized for “misses” (typing a key that is not currently active). You are also penalized heavily for “losing” a key (letting it countdown to 0).

Test 3

Game Instructions

In this game, you will be presented with a sequence of letters to type. You must press each of the keys in the order presented, from top to bottom. Once you have done so, you will get a new set of commands, until time expires or you enter 100 keystrokes.

Your keyboard commands will appear as a series of green boxes with letters. Type the first letter and then work your way down. Each letter will disappear as you type it.

Your score is based on how many letters you type versus how many mistakes you make. If you finish with time remaining, you will get a bonus.

Test 2

Game Instructions

The object of this typing game is to prevent the growing stack of words from reaching the top. As you type a word, it will disappear, but new ones will continually emerge from the bottom. Type as fast as you can to keep your stack low until the game ends.

You may type any word in the stack at any time – not just the top one.

PRESS SPACE BAR TO SUBMIT A WORD ONCE YOU TYPE IT. You cannot backspace so also use SPACE to clear your typing if you make a mistake.

Your score will be based on how many words you type correctly, how many mistakes you make, and (if you survive the round) how low your stack is.

Test 1

Game Instructions

The goal of this game is to type the target sentence as fast as possible, making as few mistakes as possible. Type the sentence exactly as it is shown, punctuation and all.

The target sentence appears in the top window while the bottom window shows your text as you type. As long as you type correctly, this text will appear black but as soon as you hit the wrong key it will turn red. At this point, backspace to correct the error and continue on.
