a custom typing test

I have received a number of requests for a customizable typing test where you can provide your own text to populate the test. In response to these inquiries, I have created such a system on my other typing site. You can enter in the text you would like, or copy and paste it from another source, and when you are done with the test you will be able to see your typing speed (in WPM) and accuracy. If interested, you can check it out here: take the custom typing test

WPM Typing Test #6

Clear the text from the screen by typing it as quickly (yet carefully) as you can. Words will disappear as you type them. After you complete the test, you will see a results screen that will provide you with your WPM (words per minute) typing speed.

The text for this test is from Langston Hughes’ moving poem A Dream Deferred.

WPM Typing Test #5

Type the text as quickly (yet carefully) as you can. The word wills disappear as you type them. After you complete the test, you will see a results screen that shows your typing speed in wpm (words per minute).

The text for this test is excerpted from Mark Twain’s famous essay on New England weather. There are three different excerpts, so feel free to test yourself multiple times.

WPM Test #4

Type the words as fast as you can. Letters disappear as you type them. After you complete the test, you will see a results screen that shows your wpm (words per minute) typing speed.

The text for this test is latin. For some, this might be a more effective way to assess your typing speed as you will be using words you don’t recognize and therefore will have to type by sight. There are a number of different paragraphs to test yourself with

Type Master

This is a simple little typing game / wpm typing test. You have a series of 10 phrases you need to type as quickly as possible after which it gives you a score and your WPM typing speed. The game has catchy graphics and sound, but unfortunately it is limited to one set of sentences so it gets old really quickly. Still, it’s worth playing a couple times to test your typing skills.

Typeroids

This is a simple yet fun typing game in which you need to destroy the drifting asteroids by typing the letters contained therein. The asteroids come at you in waves and break apart into smaller pieces as you destroy them.

Web’s Best Typing Tests

Most of the typing tests to be found on the web are all variations on the same theme, simple apps where you are asked to type a paragraph and are then provided with your WPM (words-per-minute) typing speed. These are very straight-forward, and they are your best bet if you are trying to determine your basic typing speed. However, if you are looking for something a little more interesting and challenging, there are two options out there that are more involved and a little less conventional. In these examples, you can enter into direct competition with friends or other players across the web. Read the rest of this entry »

Great Red Herring Chase from Intuition Games

I just came across a new typing game that approaches the challenge a little differently. The idea is that you are in a car chase and you need to type in the directions to your driver. It becomes a little bit like those choose-your-own-adventure books as you have 4 choices for lines at any given time and the story goes to different places depending on which line you type. Certainly not a game for everyone, but worth checking out if you are looking for something a little different.

new game added: TypeDown

Enjoy the latest typing game, TypeDown. It’s very simple yet fun and intense. Type as fast as you can to prevent the rising column of words from reaching the top.

To play, either paste some text into the input box, or just hit enter to have the application provide you with text. If you add your own text, make sure you add enough to type for 45 seconds.

Once the time starts, begin to type the text. Your output will appear below the sample text as you type. As soon as you make an error, your text will turn red. At this point, make sure you go back to correct your error (at which point the text will return to being black).

Your score is in words per minute and is based on how far you made it correctly through the text.
